Tick tock tick tock… Do you hear that? That’s the clock ticking. International Women’s Day 2017 is coming and yes, it is on the 8th of March. This year, we will be celebrating unity, solidarity, reflection, action and advocacy globally.

We need to accept the fact that women have always struggled to be put on equal ground as men. Even though our sex is known, our gender is decided by others. Since birth, colors have been decided for us – pink for girls, blue for boys. That was the first gender division enforced before our tiny eyes. As entrepreneurs, women are slowly cracking the glass ceiling. Yes, the tide has shifted! Of course, there still are challenges, but obstacles only strengthen us as women. This year, the theme of International Women’s Day, according to the UN is
“Women in the Changing World of Work: Planet 50-50 by 2030”. Women need to be more encouraged to take on the working world; rid the norm of people thinking that this is a man’s world. With the changes in technology and constant innovations, women are getting more empowered. Freelancing enables women to work based on their schedule, giving them a sort of power to carry out their work. This means that they take control of their talents, conquering the fear of not being good enough in the creative sector. Talent speaks louder than gender. Hopefully everyone will see it the same way someday.

Also, don’t forget what Eleanor Roosevelt said: “A woman is like a tea bag—you never know how strong she is until she gets in hot water”. I was once told by a friend that everything is possible, the impossible just takes longer. Let’s make everyday International Women’s Day.
