Why are you a designer?

Since I was young, I have always been interested in drawing, especially cartoon animations seen on television. In 2008, I enrolled myself in one of Bandung’s design colleges; then in 2009, I fell in love with creating 3D animation and animation shorts, but I came from a middle class family and could not afford a high-tech computer. Hence, postponing my dream to animate. During my university days, I worked as a freelance designer along with my friends creating 3D interior renderings and restaurant branding that eventually distracted me from my studies. Nevertheless, I graduated in 2011 with my Bachelor’s degree and started my career as a web designer; where I honed my knowledge about the internet and started designing for online creative markets.

How would you describe your design style?

I love minimal and clean designs. In clean designs, the main subject of the design pops out the most. However, clean designs are also not that simple as we have to figure out the right compositions in order for the design to stand out.

Where do you look for inspirations?

My inspirations can come from anywhere – when I am at my desk browsing around, when I am bored, when I am spending time with family, even when I am in the toilet. However, I am most inspired when I meet new friends.

Do you have a favourite quote? If yes, what is it and why?

“It always seems impossible until it’s done” Nelson Mandela.

If everyone can do it, why not us?

Who are some of your favourite designers that inspired you the most?

There are so many! It’s hard to remember them one by one, but it definitely includes Walter Landor & Ruth Kedar.

What would you like to achieve in the next few years?

Up to now, I feel that Indonesian graphic designers have always been under appreciated and always been given a thumbs down from other countries, as well as our own. In the near future, I hope Indonesian designers will be much more appreciated and well known.

What advice do you have for other upcoming Designpreneurs?

Keep designing, never give up, and always keep a positive thinking about making it with other Designpreneurs!
